Default c5 vs. c6 interior

If this is old news, sorry....

I mentioned in my earlier threads, Im in the market for a used vette. I love having mustangs, but Im ready to step up to better overall platform for performance.

Im curious as to the general consensus on the c5 vs. c6 interiors. I've driven, and rode in my share of c5's, but have never spent enough time in a c6 to have an opinion of my own. From others Ive talked to, the c6 is much more refined and the interior is much better. However, from taking a quick ride, and looking at pictures, it doesn't seem that much better.

The reason Im asking is because I'm looking at used c5 zo6's and used c6's. Im just trying to deteremine which is a better buy with the used c6 still being a 5-10k more. Thanks

had a c6 vert, sold it for a c5z... really the c6 is not that much better at all inside... the 08 with the faux carbon fiber centre console is nicer than the 05's to 07's...

I prefer the layout/design of the C5 interior although the C6 has a slight quality edge.

i happen to really like the c5 interior design. it's very simple, no tiny techno gimmicks to distract from driving, and almost retro in appearance (swooping curves).

it's just that most of the vinyl & leather materials suck, and the seats have lousy bolster support. they could've at least used the seats from the gto.

c6 looks to be a step up in finish.

Which is better is a personal preference. I didn't care much for the C5Z interior in stock form, but after seats, console cover, e-brake/shift boots, and Lloyd's mats I am quite happy with it. Now I have a c5z (Which I prefer to a C6) and an interior that I love plus some other mods for less $ than the C6.

Its funny how when someone buys the newest thing it is suddenly "much" better in every respect than what you had even if it really isn't. I guess when you spend a big pile of money you have to rationalize it somehow. A perfect case in point is the C5 vs C6 interior. Yes, the C6 interior is slightly different (fake chrome on the center console) but not better in my opinion.

For me, if there was one area of the C6 interior I would consider definitely better would be the seats.

Default eh.............

For me, the interior of the C5 was the biggest let down. While I enjoy the interior layout and design, it seems to be a typical GM interior; plastic an prone to rattles and shimmies which are only amplified ten-fold in colder weather. I wouldn't be so hard on the interior but when compared to the '05 GTO I sold to move to the Vette, the C5's interior seem sub-par. C5 seats are an absolute joke!

I'm going to stop dissing my vette now because I am a GM guy and love the car. I guess not going all-out in interiors helps keep Vettes at a somewhat affordable value.

WOW what kind of seats are those? Do they have complete adjustability like the stock seats?

I replaced my peeling console with a nice carbon-look piece. That's step 1 completed to fix my biggest interior complaint. Step 2 is seats, someday...

Other than that, I'm a happy camper with C5 interior.

Your interior looks stunning. Awesome!

Here's my take as I've shopped C6 a good bit.

The layout/ergonomics of the C5 are oustanding - position of controls, visibility, etc. There *are* some questionable material choices - mainly is the "soft" stuff (seats, boots). Replacing those makes a huge difference. I find the vinyl and plastic use pretty decent (not much different from many higher end vehicle).

The Z06 seats are so-so at best - the C6 sport seats are pretty decent. Neither has super terrific materials. I always thought - a little extra weight be damned - the C5 sports seats should have been used in the Z.

The C6 interior looks more like other cars than the C5 - it's a little less unique, and follows several common trends more closely. I do *not* like the silver trimmed console areas. I much prefer the faux '08 CF or painted pieces.

The C6 has better fitment on some of the pieces too, but not a huge deal. I do like that GM went with a more conventional 2DIN sized stereo head so it's bigger nicer OEM *or* much easier to replace with a nicer HU like a AVIC series from Pioneer.

Nitpicking aside, if I were to rate them, I'd probably do something like this:

[worst] 1-10 [best]

7.5 C5Z
8.5 C6
9.0 C5Z with aftermarket seats/shifter/e-brake

Aftermarket seats (or nice aftermarket OEM seat upgrades) make a tremendous difference, though can be pretty pricey.

I have owned several C5 and drived C6's. It is a lot easier for me to get in and out of the C5's. For that reason I like the C5's better.

I like the layout of the C5 better. But I haven't been around to many C6 Vettes... I really like the Carbon fiber look in the C5 though

In keeping with my original observation. Better? Yes, in some respects. Much better? No.
