Caliper bolts.
I'm trying to remove my rear calipers to install new ones (front already done with no problems) and I can not get the lower mounting bolt loose.
I'm using a air impact tool and have put some W-d40 on the bolt to no avail. does anyone have any suggestions?
Come on down, my Z is in the shop getting a polished Maggie and other related items installed at the moment, so my garage is empty at the moment except for my two hoods and a few other things, I also work from home, websites and things, so I'm here I'll be leaving to go skiing in Maggie Valley Friday for the weekend, before or after is fine, I've got all the tools neccessary for that job and more
If i remember correctly the point were the bolt goes in is a floating pin inside the caliper. On the outside it has 2 flat edges for a open end wrench. With the impact gun it spins the whole assembly. Hold the pin with a open end wrench and the hit it with the gun. It should come out.
Hey Phanni, if you do not take up Ron's offer I would be more than happy to help you out. Got all the tools needed, did mine a couple months ago and had to use the impact. Just give me a shout.
I crapped on myself trying to bust those puppies loose. Then someone suggested a good thing to try. They used their jack and a 2x4 to turn those puppies loose.
Cleveland may be the answer. There isn't much room to apply leverage.
BTW nice garage....
Nice Garage!

Pretty sure he's talking about the bracket bolts, the 13/16", not the caliper bolts. I got mine loose using a long box wrench facing downward and was able to take a nice little swing at it with a mallet.

If all he wants to do is replace the caliper, you don't need to remove the caliper mounting braket at all. To just remove the caliper, take out the caliper slide bolts as taz03 suggested. You need to put a wrench on the flats and turn. Not to hard.
The caliper mounting bracket bolts are signifigantly harder, as I believe they are torqued to 125 ftlbs and have red loctite. One suggestion someone had was to jack the car up and get a long breaker bar on the offending bolt, and then lower the car, using the weight of the car against the bar to break the bolt free.
But I still go back to the original point. If your just replacing the caliper, then no need to remove the caliper bracket.
By the way, I forgot to mention that NOTHING loosen stuck bolts and such like PB Blaster. I've had that stuff loosen everything I put it on and then some. Plus, I like their slogan:
"Don't bust your knuckles, bust your nuts with PB Blaster!"

Correct. If you just what to remove the caliper you do not need to take the bracket off. If you need to take the bracket off for another reason. Then the best way to break red locktite loose is to use some heat. Get a BernzOmatic hand held torch. Put a little heat on it and it breaks loose very easily. No need to use a breaker bar or a few choice words...
