The non-painted on stripes, are they like just big decals? Would definitely be interested if there is no harm in removing them also.

Essentially yes, they are big decals. They are made of vinyl and are applied wet so you can adjust them to get them on straight. They can be removed relatively easily, but the longer you leave them on, the harder they are to remove and you run the risk of the paint underneath them being a different color.

Not really true. I am using high performance vinyl so it is super thin and you can see thru it so it allow UV to pass thru.
If you use cheap thick vinyl, then you will have this problem.
