In a quest to make lemonade out of lemons, this has happened twice to a buddy of mine. He retrieved the first top and brought it home. He ordered a new top, then proceeded to repair the first, and paint his school's mascot on it. The second top to fly now has a flag painted on it. A bit of sanding, a small amount of filler and they were both good enough for art applications. He now has three tops. Clear, mascot, and patriotic.
And his insurance company just pays with no increase in premium? Hard to believe.
Had one of my T-tops take flight on my 1972 Corvette (back in 1973) while doing about 80 mph around the loop in Lubbock, Texas. When it blew, it shot straight up like an X-files alien abduction - never to be seen again - ended up in a corn field somewhere?
Okay I just went out to my car and unlatched, then latched the top back on. After getting comfortable in the seat it took me exactly eight seconds to fold the visors down, and lock the latches. Are we really this lazy people? EIGHT seconds is to much work to wait for another day!?
haha it did just pass and cut my power shortly after that post. So i had to go to bed. Nothing else to do. Im getting sick of this terrible weather we have been having. It's been raining too much and its 60 at the beggining of the week then it's going to be in the 20's by the end. I just can't wait until spring.

I use to always forget to latch the driver's side, but that whooshing air is a good reminder to reach up and latch it!
Man, kinda makes me glad I have a real FRC,,,,The old T-tops on my shark are so awkward that they're kinda hard to forget.Maybe advanced technology isn't such a good thing!!
I remember when this happened to me with my solid top, got is repaired and painted black and looks like my glass top, perfect for the summer months here in Texas
seems it would have been pretty easy for GM to design the C5 to put some kind of a warning on the DIC when you forget to latch your targa or the hood isn't latched on both sides...I mean they do it to the rear hatch and the doors, the two things that won't be a major disaster if they were to open while moving, and leave out the hood and the targa? I'd like to see it on all, but if anything they should have reversed their thinking.

They probably assumed it was near impossible to forget latching the top on from the time it takes to put it on and get back in the car. McDonalds probably also assumed people knew hot coffee was actually hot too.

Yes, this is what we need is more intervention/costs/warnings/labels/lawyers.
It's called the slightest bit of common sense and or responsibility.
When I take my top off, I leave my visors down, so any time i get ready to go and they are down I will look to see if my top is latched. I guess it's just a simple security thing.
