Default rear view mirror removal

I've got a 2001 vert that I'm ready to convert the rear view mirror to leds. I cant get the damn thing off the windshield! The factory manual says rock it side to side while pushing up and it should unlock. Tryed that but no luck. Any tipps on tricks out there???

There is a flat spring in the mirror base with two little locking tabs that snap down to lock the mirror onto the windshield base. Use a flashlight and look at the mirror mount through the windshield and you will see the two locking tabs.

These two tabs need to be pulled down enough to clear the windshield base and the mirror will then slide off. A small, short jawed vice grip works great. You can clamp the spring down and the mirror will slide on and off easily.
