Default Wheel/tire questions

I'm going to be upgrading wheels soon. I'm getting a set of HRE 540s in 17x9.5 and 18x10.5. I have two questions. Will I be able to mount my stock non-z06 size pilot sports on these wheels, even though they are an inch wider? Also, what do I have to do to mount tire pressure sensors in these wheels?

You failed to mention which model of Pilot Sports you have, but assuming they are the A/S, then here is your answer:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty=

That notwithstanding, people here go outside the the various mfrs' specs and claim no adverse effects. You'll have to decide that one.... As to the TPS, I thought HRE advised the standard factory mounting was possible ( although I don't think that's the case with the "R" series). Have you asked whomever you're buying these wheels from, or HRE itself? If you can't utilize the factory "stem" mounting, people have banded and epoxied the sensors to the inside of the wheel.

HRE's website says that both the 540 and 540r are OE TPMS compatible. I hope this means that they mount like they do on factory wheels. I have the summer Pilot Sports , not the A/S but based on the recommended rim widths for the A/S version, I think I will be alright. Hopefully someone running HRE wheels can chime in as to the TPM mounting.

Well, you piqued my curiosity based on your reply, so I went back to the Tirerack's website to check specs. First of all, do you have the Pilot Sport PS2? I ask because the site does not show the "Pilot Sport" summer tire being available in factory coupe sizes. The front recommended wheel width for a 245 tire is 7.5-9"; your call as to whether this will be "all right", but I can't help but think the mfr gives that info for a reason.... You can certainly mount them on the new wheels, but you surely will not get optimum performance from the tire being stretched like that. Good luck whatever you decide.

With those size wheels, I would go with wider tires if it were me. The stock Z06 sizes really look good on the regular C5.
