I know there is lot's of threads about this but my issue could be different.
Turned the car on this afternoon and noticed the "Service Column Lock" code turn on. The difference is that the steering wheel is unlocked. I drove home with no problems. I checked my codes on the DIC and found one on the SCM-B2606 HC.
I've reset the code but when I restart the car I get the "Service Column Lock" on the DIC...but the steering wheel is still unlocked.
The other thing I noticed was that when I turn everything off and pull the key from the ignition the steering wheel still doesn't lock, but before this, it would lock.
I haven't done anything yet so if someone could help, I would appreciate it. Thanks
first of all, what is clb? and where can i get one??
Another thing to note is that a few days before i bought it (1 1/2 years ago) The previous owner had to take it in to the dealer in Tucson Az cause the steering had locked up on him and could not move it. He had it towed to the dealer.

Reason: added another question
If the column used to lock, then the column lock actuator must be stuck in the unlocked position, causing the error message.
The CLB (column lock bypass) will take the actuator out of the circuit and provide the correct feedback to the BCM to get rid of the error.
To install the CLB, the actuator must be in the unlocked position, so it sounds like you need to install one before the actuator ends up getting stuck with the column locked.
Try pulling fuse #25 for one minute and then put it back. The fuse is located in the fuse panel under the carpet in the passenger foot-well. Refer to the fuse panel diagram in your owner's manual to locate the fuse in the panel.
I ended up unplugging the battery and the code turned off, but it still doesn't lock the steering wheel. ( I know that it used to before this happened)
Anyway, Since the code is now off, i'm wondering if the dealer will do anything about it.

Could anyone tell me where to buy a CLB?
You can also get an aftermarket CLB from ThunderRacing.
If you have the nerve, you can get GM to remove the lockplate and install the Harness K kit as part of a recall, for free.
If the actuator is still functional, and it stuck in the locked position, it could unstick and end up locking your column without warning.
Best to install some sort of bypass before it hangs in the wrong position.
Easy install. If you need any help, just let me know. I've installed one on my 98 after I got it. I live in Mesa by the way. Do you belong to any Vette Clubs around here? I belong to the ACE Club - Arizona Corvette Enthusiasts. Very good bunch of people.

I too would recommend installing a column lock bypass (CLB) on the car. For about $50, it gives you a very good peace of mind. Got mine from Thunder Racing.
I haven't had any probs as of yet, but just ordered a CLB from COH. Better safe than sorry. Bought car used and got all receipts, but none showing a clb purchase.
today my battery went dead on my vette and i got a message after i jumped my car off service column lock but the the steering wheel is not locked , i hit the reset button and car is running fine any suggestions on what i shoud do?
what is required to install the column lock from thunder racing or other companies? how difficult is it?
Not very difficult at all. Just remove the knee pad from under the steering column. The connection should be there. Don't have any pictures of it. Contact Cscokd, he might be able to help you more then I can.

The day I installed my CLB was the day I figured out how easy it is to work on the C-5. I have since removed/replaced an aftermarket radio (a POS) and amp, installed new brake pads , rotors and calipers, HIDs and today I changed the oil/filter. These things are addictive.
