Default compression question

Hey guys/gals

Just a real simple question. I noticed the increase in compression from th ls1 to the ls6 motors. What causes it? Is it a different piston, or do the heads cause the change in compression between the 2 motors?

Another question. Ive been a ford guy since I had my first mustang at 16 and recently am making the switch to a corvette. However, Im looking for the right frc or zo6. From doing head swaps on my 4.6 mustangs, I know that high compression and FI supercharger/turbo cars dont mix. Do most ls1 and especially ls6 cars with blowers lower the compression and forge the motor?

Thanks!

Mark

LS6 heads have smaller 64.4cc chambers compared to the 66.7cc LS1 heads. This is what raises the compression.

And yes, most people building a forged engine for boost will usually install dished pistons, and use larger chambered heads to get the compression down.

You can run superchargers on our motors w/o changing the pistons and still get reasonable HP gains. If you build a forged motor of course you would lower the compression. When Andy tuned mine he said he could have gotten 600 RWHP but stopped at 582 run because bottom wasn't forged and tranny is stock.
