Default Need some input on a 2001 Z06

Hey guys I'm new to this site, but a long time member over at ls1tech.com. I've been looking around for a while now trying to find a clean C5 Z06 with +/-40kmiles for around mid 20s. I found a Torch Red 2001 Z06 at a dealer 100 miles away from me. It has 25,600 miles on it and they are asking $24,800. According to them it's in "phenomenal condition". Car has a clean title and history and only mod is a catback. Does this sound like a good deal? I would have expected the price to be at least $3000 more with the mileage it has and especially from a dealer. I'm gonna try to get out there to see it in person this weekend and take it for a spin.

Is there anything I should look out for?
Realistically how much could I get this car for?
Price to good to be true?
Help please lol.

Sounds right on to me.

The '01 isn't as coveted as the '02-'04 Z cars so the price should be nice and low. Nod a bad purchase IMO.

Go for it. I paid 25K for my 43K mile 2001 last year. The 01's are great cars.

I say go for it (after you see it in person of course). I paid $2K more for my '02 EB w/ about the same mileage a few weeks back.

Very nice price for that mileage. The 01's are great cars , don't think anything less of them compared to other C5 Z06's. I bought a higher mileage car for a few thousand less and it is a great car.

Here is a checklist, go slow, get the GM service record report for the VIN #.

Everyone says there cars are in top condition, we expect them to say that.

Take a pencil and check off each item SLOWLY.

Good luck

Awesome thanks alot guys. And only59 thanks for the list, makes it easier for things to look for as I go over the car.

As far as an 01 vs 02-04, the 20hp doesn't bother me at all. I'm more concerned about getting a Z06 that was maintained properly and taken care of. In the end, I'll be getting a car that is more capable than my Z28 is.

Welcome to the forum. That price is not too good to be true. As others have posted they have recently bought them for similar prices. That checklist that Only59 posted is very useful. Especially try to get and read carefully the GM service record. If the car checks out great then buy it but if not there are plenty more of them available for sale.
Good luck,
Jeff

Its a very good price for the low mileage and especially if its in as good shape as you say.

Well I requested pictures before I make the 200 mile round trip for nothing. The quality is not that great, but helps. To start, I don't like how the car is parked on grass, hopefully it hasn't been there for to long. I noticed that there are small chunks of mud and leaves stuck to the front. It's nothing that can't be washed off, but again not good when trying to sell a car described as being in "phenomenal condition". And it has the mod red interior which they forgot to mention. Can anyone tell what exhaust is on the car by the tips? And from what you can see by the pics, is there anything that looks out of place? Comments?

welcome to the forum. car doesnt seem bad plus its got the black and red gut wich i wish mine had and some people on this forum will kill for it, but any way just make sure the GM upgrades have been done to the car such as the steering column lock and i think 01 Zs had a clutch sticking prob. if ur looking to mod the car then dont worry about the clutch and that its the 385hp because once u start buying parts the horsepower goes up real fast. good luck!

Paid $23k for a 46k mile, '01 about a year ago. Absolutely a fantastic Vette... Check yours over very closely. Check underneath for any curb jump damage.... Also, see if it is possibke to speak w/ the previous owner(s).... Good Luck....

Doesnt sound like a bad deal. I wouldnt be too worried about the mud on the tires.... Probably was wet grass when they pulled it up there. Have you checked carfax yet? Get the VIN and get the GM Service Records too. I would probably try to talk them down abit.... Just to see if you can get a better deal. Love the color and interior!!

I just recently bought a 01 Z with 17k for $26k in stock form, so.... Heres a few pics.

Make sure that they put it on a rack to check for leaks, especially in the rear end area. Good Luck on a nice lookin' car.

I think it sounds like a great price as long as everything checks out. As mentioned above, make sure the tires are good as they are expensive to replace.
I'm on LS1tech a lot and kept my 600+rwhp 2000 Z28 when I bought my Z16. They are very different cars, but both put a smile on my face...

Default Is it really a Z?

Check to make sure it really is a Z (but it sure appears to be) and not a 'configured' FRC. Can do it by checking the VIN, original window sticker, among other things. Get a CARFAX!

Put it on a lift, pull a front and rear wheel and check for rust on the spindles, which could indicate having sat in high water.

.
FRC's were built only in '99 and '00. So I'm pretty sure thats not even a possibility.

Exhaust looks like a Bassani.

Ok so I just got back a little while ago. Overall, it's an ok car but not what I thought it would be. The pictures don't really tell the whole story. The interior isn't in that great of shape. Seats are a bit worn and have some stains and the engine bay is pretty filthy. After taking it out for a spin, I noticed that it felt sluggish. Honestly, my Camaro with 340rwhp felt faster. Not what I was expecting from a Z06 with almost 26k miles. I've been in my friends 07 C6 Z51 and that thing pulled much harder than this Z06. So right there I knew something wasn't right with this car. By the way the car looked and drove, you could tell it's been beaten on and driven hard. I didn't even bother with the salesman afterwards, just told him it wasn't what I was looking for and left.

I found an 04 with 32,000 miles in the paper for 29K yesterday and figured I'd stop and take a look while I was out. So after driving another 60 miles I get there only to find out that it was sold.

This car was so cleeaaannn that it made the 01 look like a honda civic. Night and day difference. I asked the salesman if he gets Z06s in often, and he said very rarely. BUT then another salesman that was listening told me that someone is trading in their black 04 Z06 with only 12k miles next week. I told him that it would most likely be out of my price range. He took my info and gave me his card and said he'll call me when the car comes in and we could work something out.

So after all this, the red 01 turned out to be a dud. The red 04 was perfect but someone else bought it. And I prob won't be able to afford the black 04 b/c it has 12k miles, its at a dealer, and they'll prob ask 35k+ for it. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky even though luck hasn't been on my side so far, but we'll see what happens. Just going crazy in the process.

lol but I will use all the info and help you guys gave me b/c I am determined to find my C5 Z06! I'll keep you posted.
