Default cant delete codes...help

i keep getting the c1214 code for the traction control/abs. I turn the key to the get power but dont turn the motor on. i follow the instrustion and try to delete the code but it doesnt delete. i goes away for 1/2 a sec and then pops back on. isnt it supposed to delete? is this the sign of a more serious problem? any help is appreciated.

If you have already checked that your EBCM has clean grounds (G103 and G108) - then your EBCM is toast ....

See Bill Curlee's sticky at the top of the C5 Tech forum for more info on checking/cleaning the ground locations.

Once you have checked the grounds, if you are still getting the C1214, you have two choices ....

1) Take car to dealer and let them fix it ... will cost around $1,000 ... maybe a little less if your dealer is "kind" ... note that the "new" EBCM may fail sometime in the future with another C1214

2) Go to this website and see how to remove EBCM yourself ... ship it to them (car is driveable with EBCM removed) ... and fix the problem once and for all time

The only thing you can do from the DIC is clearing the display on the text screen, your ABS light and Active Handling light will still be on. You'll need to fix the problem for those to go out permanently.

I just dropped my car off today for this exact same problem, hopefully my warrantee will cover.

From the DIC you ARE deleting the code, whether it is a Pxxxx code or whatever ... not just "clearing the display". However, if the underlying cause of the problem is not fixed, the code will return at some point in time. An EBCM code such as a C1214 will re-appear almost instantly as the EBCM runs its internal diagnostic, while other codes (such as a bad wheel speed sensor) would only re-appear once you drive the car.

The DELETE function from the DIC is the same as using a Tech2 to DELETE a code.

sorry about that, I just realized I wasn't thinking of going to the screen that actually reads the codes. Well in any event, they will be back so I'm almost correct.
