Default Note from the troops. Magazines a hit.

I just got the package in from Steve with a really nice note from him with the cigars! I already smoked one and it was great! Thank you very much. And thank Steve please for his gracious note. I neglected to save his e-mail address.

We have gotten over 40 boxes of magazines since you put our address on the website! Please post with a heartfelt thanks to all the many people who took the time and money to send us their magazines!

Hope all is well with you all!

And Thanks again.

That's so cool, I think everyone that's over there should be presented the keys to a brand new ZR1 as soon as they come back into our great country here. They served...they serve with their lives, and we owe them the best, ....nuff said, I salute you

Thank You

Hi builder -

Thanks for the update -

I have more boxes from the p/o -

For others, the deal is that you go to the post office and pick up free priority mail boxes and customs forms -

Then you go home and put about 20 magazines in each box - depending on the thickness of the magazines.

Tape em up, fill out the customs forms and then take them to the post office.

It is $8.90 each to ship them off.

Money well spent IMO.

best regards -

Default NEW, BIGGER Flat Rate box for troops!

See the sticky original forum post for the new Afghanistan address. I updated the first posting.

by Debora Preitkis
U.S. Postal Service

WASHINGTON, DC (AFPN) -- Planning to send a care package to a military service member serving abroad? Send it after March 3 to take advantage of a new flat-rate box from the Postal Service that is 50 percent larger and delivered for $10.95 to an APO/FPO address -- $2 less than for domestic destinations.

"This is the first time the Postal Service has offered a special price for our armed forces serving overseas," said Postmaster Gen. John Potter. "We're proud that family and friends will be able to use this new larger-sized box to send much appreciated packages from home to our dedicated troops overseas."

The new priority mail large flat-rate box (12" x 12" x 5 ½" or 800 cubic inches) will be available in post offices nationwide beginning March 3, but customers can begin ordering them Feb. 20 at usps.com/supplies or by calling 800-610-8734. Some of the new boxes are co-branded with the logo of "America Supports You," which is a Department of Defense program that connects citizens offering support to the military and their families.

"It's terrific that the Postal Service continues to think of ways to help Americans support our troops and their families. Postage is always a concern when shipping care packages, and this new flat-rate box means our home front groups and supportive citizens can do more with their resources," said Allison Barber, the deputy assistant secretary of Defense. "We're especially pleased that some of the boxes will bear the America Supports You logo reminding our service members that they have our nation's support."

The $2 discount is applied when the priority mail large flat-rate boxes are shipped to an APO/FPO destination. The two existing flat-rate boxes (11 7/8" x 3 3/8" x 13 5/8" and 11" x 8 ½" x 5 ½"), which currently retail for $8.95 for U.S. addresses, are not available for the military discount. All flat-rate boxes can be used for international shipping.

The new flat-rate boxes will be available in Post Offices starting March 3. The America Supports You branded box will be available online, at select post offices near military bases, or by calling 800-610-8734.

For more information, please visit usps.com.

Subject: Reduced postage for deployed troops packages (UNCLASSIFIED)

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED

Caveats: NONE

Good news from the Postal Service. There have been requests from Family
Members to get relief from the cost of mailing care packages to
Soldiers. Regions please pass to ACS. Army Commands please get the
info to your units.

WASHINGTO N, Feb. 14, 2008 - Military families have long used
the U.S. Postal Service's flat-rate shipping boxes to send care packages
around the globe. Beginning March 3, they'll get a price break.

The discount applies only to the new "Priority Mail Large
Flat-Rate Box," which normally carries a $12.95 price tag for shipping.
However, when the 12-by-12-by-5.5-inch box is sent to an AFO or FPO
address, a $2 discount applies, dropping the cost to $10.95.

"This is the first time the Postal Service has offered a special
price for our armed forces serving overseas," said Postmaster General
John Potter. "We're proud that family and friends will be able to use
the new, larger-sized box to send much-appreciated packages from
home to our dedicated troops overseas."

The new boxes will be available in post offices nationwide on
March 3.
Those who can't wait to start packing the boxes, however, can
order them from www.usps.com/supplies beginning Feb. 20. They're also
available by calling 1-800-610-8734.

Some of the new boxes carry the America Supports You logo.
America Supports You is a Defense Department program connecting citizens
and companies with servicemembers and their families serving at home
and abroad.

"It's terrific that the Postal Service continues to think of
ways to help Americans support our troops and their families," said
Allison Barber, deputy assistant secretary of defense for internal
communication, community relations and public liaison. "Postage
is always a concern when shipping care packages, and this new
flat-rate box means our home-front groups and supportive citizens can do more
with their resources.

"We're especially pleased that some of the boxes will bear the
America Supports You logo, reminding our servicemembers that they have
our nation's support," she added.

The boxes bearing the America Supports You logo will be
available only online or at select post offices near military bases. All
flat-rate boxes are available for international shipping, though the
discount applies only to the large flat-rate box, and only if it's being
shipped to an APO or FPO address.
