Based on the improvements they made including power I would say yes the extra 2K is worth it. Also not all, but some 01's have an oil consumption "Minor Issue" It's not bad or anything & I think there was a recall for it. I'm not sure, but the problem was fixed for 02' Even with all my mods my oil is never low, not once.

I own an '01, but would have bought and '02 if I could have found one even close to the price. Mine was about $5-6K cheaper than the nearest '02 at the time and it only had 21K miles on it. Your post doesn't say anything about mileage, but all things being equal I would go with the lower mileage car. If they're similar in mileage and mechanical condition, definitely go with the '02. 20HP is well worth the difference.

The '01 is priced dead on KBB value for excellent condition. Since you have options, I would offer around $21K (trade-in value) and see what happens.

well my opinion is buy the best Z06 that crosses your path for the value it brings to the table. I think it's a false assumption that across the board an 01 may cost $2K less.

The reality is that this summer all of these cars can easily be $2000 higher !

they are ALL great cars , buy the one that fits your budget. Never be afraid to get an 01.

I would Look at Both of Them... Check Paint Condition..etc..
How are the Tires ? Will you need new ones. its about $900-1000..
Who owned the Cars?.. I would buy the One with LOWER Miles.. That's just me.. I have an 01 Z06 with around 18xxx Miles and Have had NO problems.. I think you should LOOK at them both if possible..

Default Both are Great!

I own an '01 and an '03. Both black, both are great! While the '02's may have a few advantages over the '01, I am totally happy with my '01. I personally have not experienced any major problems with either Z... I agree with most of the previous posting members. Do lot's of homework....Examine the entire condition of the car, (just last week a member posted a pretty comprehensive check list for inspection). Research the past history and maint records. Talk to previous owners. If you get a good one, you have one of the best performance values ever made......

I have an 01Z. Excellent car! No problems! And that business about the 20hp, I wouldnt let that be an issue. If both cars are in good condition, and the 01 happens to be cheaper, and if you get the 01, cold air kit, maf, power duct, tuning Xpipe, HALLELULAH!!!!!!got your 20 hp!!

02 with all 60K on the hiway.
01 with all 40K on the track

NOW, which one would you buy??? It's all about condition. Incidently, my 01 had 60K hiway and now I'm going to put the next 40K on it on the track. Good luck with your search, take your time and have fun, a good one will come along.

Don't let the location of the car dictate whether or not you buy it.

I found my 02 Z06 in Iowa last year. The car had 12,500 miles on it. Truely a garage queen. I flew out there and drove the car back. The plane ticket cost $350.....but, the 1,000 mile drive home was PRICELESS!!!!!

I wanted an 02-03 Z about a year ago but couldn't find one in my price range. I came across an 01... test drove it... and never looked back. The only time you'll know you're missing 20 hp... is when you are racing an 02-04 Z06 with a good driver.

If you plan on modding it... 01 wins hands down. Put that $2k into headers/cam.

02/03 differences from 01
- 20hp (more agressive cam, screenless MAF, sodium-filled valves, stiffer valvesprings)
- HUD
- cast wheels instead of forged

Just a tip:
Use the search function and you can find answers to many questions immediately.

That being said, here is a link to a guy selling retrofit kits:
