Default Z06 alignment questions???

I see in the FAQ that there are differences in the Z06 (FE4) and non Z06 (FE1 & FE3) wheel alignment specifications. Can I assume the differences are biased toward track use? My car will only see street use, should I advise the highly recommended area shop to use non Z06 specifications? Also my steering wheel is slightly off center, is this something that can be easily addressed during the alignment process?

The Z06 settings also effect how it drives in round town and spirited highway driving, and I think most here stay with them. Some people thought those settings contributed to inside front tire wear, but that actually is from the dual compounds in the GYSC tires. My Firestone wideovals have not had a problem with wear, with the same original settings.

Can you substantiate that F1SC tread has "dual compounds".

Not saying you are wrong, but I never heard that one. What is your source?

For the OP, if your desire is better tire wear & give up a little handling, yes you can use non Z alignment on your Z. It'll be fine.

I read it in Goodyear literature in about the time the Z06 came out in 01, it said sometime about having different compounds for specific areas of the tire reduced chunking on heavy turning (like autocrossing). If I can run across it I will reprint it. Check how many others have had inner tire wear on the front. Its not due to the alignment if different tires fixes it. My GYSC's had cord showing on the inside at 19k miles, still at 5/32 all the rest of the tire. My firestones are at 20k right now and look even and good all across, no change in alignment.

Just found an article introducing the new 2001 Z06, and specifically they mention the outer part of the tire being much stiffer for handling the increases loads of turning, while the tread itself was much softer than the stock C5. That is probably what I meant by dual compound, probably is not actually a dual compound, but being stiffer. Still would explain early inner tire wear. Here is the link: http://www.c5registry.com/zo6/hib/page2.htm

Thanks LT1GMC,

Asymmetric tread pattern was the reference.

MY F1SC's wore out inside front also. I run 2.2 neg. front & 1.2 neg rear with Dot R tires. Mostly an autox/track car. A little street.

I'm pretty sure the neg camber is what wear's them out more than any other factor, but I do really appreciate you digging out that article by Hib, he's my favorite technical writer/reviewer.

Be safe.
