The damn thing wont come out. Ive got a blind bearing puller with a slide hammer. Have been at it for 2 hours and all ive got done it ripping out the innards. Whats the trick??
When Cajundude put my clutch in, he actually broke his tool trying to get mine out. Went and got a new one and FIALLY got it out. Good Luck with it bud
I saw this trick a looong time ago (probably 1965, since it was before our Rich Uncle Sam sent me the "invitation")
Pack the inside of the bushing with wet paper. When I saw it done, the guy chewed on the paper until it was mushy. A swig of beer during and after helped with the paper taste.
use a bearing puller and push the paper wad into the bushing hole. THe bearing puller is bolted to the crank at the flywheel. The forcing bolt of the puller should have an end bushing that is just smaller than the ID of the pilot bearing.
Turn turn turn and the hydraulic action pushes it right out.
Pick the paper wad out with a scribe.
use the puller to push the new bearing in, putting a brass washer over it to protect .

There is a plug in the end of a LS1 crank. Do not use the old school method to push out the bearing, as you will end up needing to pull the crank to fix it. I got mine out with a puller, but it was a nightmare. It took a lot more effort than I ever thought it would. Last case effort can be a dremel tool and gring the bearing shell out.
Bob K is correct - do not use the method of trying to push grease into the crank bore to push the bearing out. A few guys here have discovered just how bad an idea that is for the LS1/6.
The 4-jaw puller I have pictured above is very similar to the first 2-jawed one I tried which never worked. The 4-jaw had it out in less than 5 minutes.
GOT IT!! Thanks everyone!! We ended up getting a piece of all thread rod and adding an extra slide hammer on it. It gave a longer throw that finally got it.
