Not sure how far you are from bar but did you retrace route just in case girlfriend is correct.
Yeah. The plate had been on the car a couple years.
One day I had an older lady flag me down on the street a couple blocks from where I live, and said she saw something fall off my car when I left the intersection. It was my exhaust plate.
It was a cheap-o C5 logo plate from WCC that came with a single strip of tape across it. It stuck there for a couple of years....but after I lost it, I just went and made my own plate out of a pc of polished SS, rolled the bottom edge, and left it plain (no logo), and used a lot more, and a lot stronger tape to attach it. It's still there.

Let me be the first to say I agree with your girlfriend. You may be correct on the stolen aspect if you are sure you prepped it well before installation.
My exhaust plate has been on for over four years and is holding strong, but I cleaned the mounting area very well with alcohol before I installed it.

Never had that happen to mine - my exhaust plate has been on the car for I'd guess five years and from what I can tell, it would take a chisel and hammer to get it off.

A lot of companies, no names (ECKLERS) use crappy clear 2 sided tape that is NOT meant for outdoor use or even things that are slightly heavy. I had one fall off after 2 years of ownership that had been on from the previous owner.
I ordered a plain plate from ecklers to make my own exhaust plate, and it had the same crap. Used some 3m outdoor use weather resistant tape. Comes in a roll with red backing. Much thicker and better.
