Default Control Panel Lights

Can someone please describe the steps needed to replace DIC Control Panel Lights? More specifically, the bulb for my Trip and Options buttons is burned out. How much of my dash needs to come off? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

ltdan,

Unfortunately, you will have to remove the entire instrument cluster (IPC). It's not difficult, but if you've never done it before, it is a little daunting. Go to either Vette Essentials or Spdkilz websites and they have step by step instructions with photos. Both buttons are lighted by a single incandescent bulb mounted in a neo wedge base. I'm not sure if you can get the replacement bulb from GM, but pretty sure you can from Autolumination.com. If you order it, there are two sizes - it's the smaller of the two. It will take about 20 minutes to get the IPC out, 10 seconds to change the bulb, and 20 minutes to put the dash back together. Good luck.

It's a pretty long process, but if you get someone local to help, it shouldn't take more than 2 hrs from start to finish.

Here's the dash removal instructions:

Also, I would suggest replacing them with LED's so they don't burn out again. www.superlumination.com sells the right plug-n-play parts.

Yes, make sure you have the lamps before you pull it apart. They are not common lamps. As noted above, the site has the correct lamps. They are called Neo-wedge lamps and come in incandescent and LED flavors along with lots of colors. If you go to LED's, note that they can be installed in either direction, therefore they won't work if they are backwards and there is no real way to know. This implies, you test them BEFORE you put it back together. Incandescent, it doesn't make any difference at all. LED's are polarized. DIC controller needs 3 10MM Neo-Wedge lamps
