I just bought a perfect 2003 and want to keep it that way. Do the plastic door sill covers work? I see that there are static cling plastic covers for the rocker panels too...do they really work? Any suggestions and ideas on what works and which ones to buy would be greatly appreciated.
what I want to know is why nobody offers a nice subtle (yet durable) door sill protector similar to the factory plate - just a little bit bigger so that it covers the corners on the sill... everything I've seen is either huge and complete overkill for the job, or it's no larger than the factory covers and really doesn't do anything... I've even thought about doing a nice layer of rubberized coating similar to rhinoliner on mine - but haven't pulled the trigger yet...
Like the others have said I've got these in clear with white lettering, they are large but they cover the best and the clear doesn't show hardly at all. They have velcro on the inside edge that grabs the carpet to eliminate movement, just don't catch them and knock them lose with your feet. I've had them for 6 years and broke one once when I moved it washing the car (I stepped on it outside the car!) Here's a link...
I have a set of clear ones on my vette, they work(protect) good but when I get out of the car, sometime it catches on my shoe and that bugs me. But they keep the sills clean.

RHINO LINER or LINEX would be bullet proof but require a lot of masking before they could apply it.
Most large home improvement stores or McMASTER-CARR have two types of anti slip stair tread tape material. One is the coarse grit sandpaper like material and the other is a stippled (sp?) rubber like material. I've seen it in white, gray brown, clear and black. It typically comes in 1", 2", 4" and 6" wide and sold by the foot. Both have strong adhesive backing. They're both flexible to go over an edge.
With a little experimentation and very little expense, one or the other could probably be used to make your own protective sill covers.

I have the plastic ones with velcro as well. They came with the car when I bought it, but the previous owner bought them when the car was new eight years ago. The sills are still perfect, but there are a few minor scuff marks on the covers (proof that they work). Over time, the velcro doesn't stick too well, and I keep meaning to address it.
Note to self: Replace velcro on door sill protectors.

God I almost always have to say that and, "Don't use the window, use the door" It's automatic now. As soon as her (or anyones) hand touches the door, I pipe up.
Mine is a dd and I recently had the vulnerable areas covered with clearshield. I will probably have the rear top done so I don't need a bib and was thinking about the sill areas as well. I like the product but you have to be willing to accept the (almost) invisble lines of the cover.
Mine are clear plastic, with velcro fasteners. They came with the car. They work because they already have a few scuff marks in the plastic. They are easily removed for wiping down the sills after a wash.
I have the clear plastic ones. I noticed that they can rub and leave minor marks in the paint so I don’t use them on a daily basis. I use them when I have to take the car for service because the service techs can’t seem to lift their foot high enough. They also have a habit of kicking the door panel with their greasy shoes so I also put that blue painters masking tape on the door and center console.
