I'm new to C5s and have been hearing about "the red wires",,,are they a "high performance" wire ,or just a different version of stock wires? I'm coming up on 56k and will eventually be changing plugs as preventive maintainence .Figure I might as well hit the wires while I'm in there.

The red GM wires had a higher resistance than the ones I bought from autozone a while back, the red GM wires were around 810 ohms (each), autozone OEM wires were around 320 ohms and the MSD;s were around 50 ohms. I made a post about it a while back, there is no difference in the GM OEM wires and the GM RED ones, just color.

and if you are going to use Kool Socks...you'll cover up the "RED" wires...save some money and stick with the OEM.

In that case, if you desire the red wires, I would think the MSD red would be the way to go. There seems to be a major difference in the resistance between OEM and MSD wires, justifying the switch.

I know this can open a can of worms (again) but the low resistance wires can actually be an indicator of an inferior product. One volt DC passing through the wire from your ohm meter acts nothing like a pulsed 45,000 + volt charge.
