It always cracks me up when all the snobs out there talk about how low tech the Corvette's pushrod engine is and how much better the DOHC engines are. The Vette is rated better fuel economy than almost every performance car on the market and is even rated better than many four cylinder cars such as the Honda S2000. I got 45.7 mpg on a recient trip back from Fla. on I-95 at 60mph cruise on all flat land.I drove at this speed for 40 miles,was blown away,so was my wife.Hell the tach showed little more than 1100rpm's.

I once got 35 mpg in my '98 Z28 doing 70 with cruise on a flat stretch. Heavier and less aerodynamically efficient at a higher speed. I think he could have done it.
Now try running an economy car 1100 rpms.
What's nice about the V8 it has enough torque to maintain the speed at low rpms. Then with the fuel injection it will just sip gas.
