Default DTE/RPM Diff or OEM Z06 diff

I have searched the forms and could not find this question addressed.

Do I go with a DTE or RPM differential (3.42 gears)or order an OEM Z06 differential form GM Parts House?

They are both about the same price, with the OEM route I would be able to keep my original (2.73) diff.

I am also going to add a mild stall.

Thanks in advance.

If it was me I would do the DTE and 3.42 gears and be done with it, 3.42 and a stall will work great

It's pretty much the same price, so go with the stronger aftermarket one!

If you're going to buy the "base" aftermarket diff (which is what's about the same price as a new Z06 unit) it's not getting you all that much over the factory diff. Maybe better assembly and a better LH shaft. And that's "costing" you the $700 core value of your existing diff, over and above the diff price. Plus the late '04 units have a better case. If it were me I'd either step up to a Stage 2 or 3 aftermarket unit or take the new Z06 unit. Unless you're going to make some really serious power, the Z06 unit should be plenty strong enough behind an automatic.

Rodney at RPM did my 3.90 rear about 2 years ago as a favor. I understand he has recently started doing them for the general public again. You won't find a better person than Rodney to deal with - and a great product. I've beaten my differential hard and it is still whisper quiet with no noise at all.

best all round way to go..when you get some good h.p. and tq. over 342 in the rear. just look at smoking the tires for ever.

Same here. I had Rodney do my 3:73 rear and it's lived through many 1.6 60" at the track and hard launches all summer. No noise or anything. Very happy with it. Great customer service as well. I'm going to buy a tranny (level V) from them this spring as well. Good luck with your choice I'm sure you can't go wrong either way.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no choice but RPM !!!!! They have done all my transmission/rear end work with outstanding results. My car is no where near stock, and RPM is the only shop I've found that's been able to build something that has been able to stand up to my ECS Supercharged 427.

RPM is a shop where you feel that you've gotten MORE than your money's worth. That my friend is a rare thing in this day and time.
