Suppose I have a white coupe automatic high miles.
I find a black Z06 with low miles but it has a salvage title and lots of body damage but the entire drive train/suspension is fine.
I lift off the body of the white car, roll out the drive train, suspension, everything except the body; roll in the Z06 after its body is off. Change over the gauges, computer, etc. I end up with my White car with all Z06 low mile parts.
Replace the broken black body on the old things from my car.
Do I now have a clear title White car with all Z06 parts and a black salvage title car?
Do I have a white car with Z06 parts as salvage title and a black car with clear title?
Kind of like a story problem but it gets the point across!

I would think you would have a pair of complicated or even illegal cars in the eyes of the DMV. With that said I'd like to buy a salvaged Z at 50% of KBB for a track car. But that's not going to happen.

I don't think it would be complicated or illegal. To do major engine work the best way is to drop down the whole drive train from the body from underneath. The plan would be to do that with both cars but switch both. So question is body holds the title, right?
Wrong, A lot of cars are salvaged because of cosmetic damage. Has anyone seen how much it cost to just repair a small scratch or to replace a scuffed bumper cover or headlight assembly. And usually cosmetically damaged salvage vehicles bring 75 to 80 percent of value in my area. I have also had a salvage title vehicle that was totaled again in a very bad accident and the insurance company paid off full value and that is the truth. A lot of statements are made about this without the writer ever having any real experience with it.

Not only do I agree, but you are 100% correct.

Couldn't of said it better myself.
