Default C5Z Oil Drain Plug

do these cars have a magnetic plug in them from the factory...changed the oil today and the plug wasnt a magnetic type....maybe the stocker got beat up and the old owner had to replace but if they have them stock I'd like to buy one for future oil changes to see how the engines doing....I just remember cleaning the "fuzz" off the magnetic plug on my old HC ws6...anyways filled it up with 5w30 Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic with the Delco filter and went on my day....pretty sure the previous owner used Mobil 1 but there was some NAPA gold filter in place....wish i could find a place around here that sell WIX filters

My 2001 did not have a magnetic drain plug, and I installed one later.

Well Wix makes Napa filters, both gold and regular.

Not trying to belittle you but this is pretty common knowledge...

Z06s don't come with a magnetic drain plug, but you used to be able to buy one from the dealer. I think I read a post that GM no longer supplies them as a spare part, but that may not be true, and I don't have the part number to verify.

Just curious, if I wanted a magnetic drain plug, could I just go to Autozone or Pep Boys or Advance? I know these places sell them all the time. Would seem to me that they would have the same size as our cars require.

Yeah can you believe a C5 Corvette gets no magnetic plug, but a 2000 Cavalier does. I ordered one for the vette from a catalog a couple years back, and it's identical. Same wrench, and they even use the same oil filter. Makes for handy shopping. Maybe you can find a plug from a 2.4L Cavalier?

I have also read where some people have bought aftermarket drain plugs that were identical, but did not come with the built in gasket. Makes no sense at all.

Unfortunately, you put in a worse filter than the previous owner had on. The napa gold/wix is about the best filter out there.
