I still have factory rims and tires on my '02 with the fronts at 6/32 and the rears at 4/32. I found a good set of rear Michelin Pilot Sports with 8/32 left, but the size is 285/35/18. Is this tire going to be too skinny to place on the rear rim or will I be ok? What kind of problems will have if any?
You can use that tire if you wish.No you will not have any problems, speedo might be slightly off.....never heard of anyone wanting to put something smaller in the back, most of us want to go a big as we can.
Why is it that you are wanting to do this?.........price that good to pass up?.......would have to be free for me to go any more narrow than stock, these cars already have enough traction issues as it is.
Trust me, I want to go with a wider tire but right now I'm tight on money and need new tires in the rear. The tires retail for $340 each I believe and the guy wants $200 for the pair. Its just a temporary set of tires for me to burn up.

Assuming these are used tires, just make sure you know the date of manufacture. If they are old (ie 5-6 years old), the compound is going to be hard. Hard tires on the rear of your car basically means you can't use the right pedal and you may as well have a 3.8 V6 in there.

I'll make sure to find that out. Right now I still have my factory '02 tires on, and I figure right now almost anything is better. They're way to hard in the rear and hardly have any meat on them.
I don't get off work until 4am, so my cold, hard, 4/32 rear tires and the cold asphalt don't get along too well.
