I took out the 02 zo6 this weekend after sitting for about 3 months.......I drove one way for 3 hours without any issues....till I started going home.....about 1.5 hrs into my 3hr trip I see my fuel light come on....I thought this is strange because I had 3/4 of a tank left.....I had a bit of panic....(middle of no where)....took it easy and made it to a gas station..put in $57.00..I figured if this tank was empty there is something wrong here.......After I filled up.the gauge still said empty......after driving a bit she went to 1/2 a tank then back to full....What could this be?
It's very common,I'm dealing with the problem in my 98 now. Some members say The additive Techron will help clean the sensors in about three tank fulls.I'm working on my second.I had this problem 3 yrs ago and it cured itself with Amoco whote gas.Good luck.
Your sending units are clogged up. You need to put in a bottle of Techron or Seafoam and that will clean them up. Its a common problem with the C5's.
Yup. You may need to run a couple of bottles of Techron through to clean things up a bit. Then use it twice a year to keep the fuel system clean. Also use only top tier fuels -- Chevron (which already has Techron in it) Conoco-Philips, Mobil, etc. I stay away from Shell because of its high sulphur content which contributes to the problems you are having. I never use Total--Citgo--Diamond Shamrock--Western low price brands.
1. buy a quality fule system cleaner
Shell V Power, Seafoam, Techron, Valvoline Synpower,
Berrymans Chemtool B-13, BK-44... There are several of them..
2. Buy a gasoline with an enhanced detergency package... www.toptierfuel.com
3.If that does not work, after 2-3 tankfuls look for loose/corroded grounds.
4. If you still have a problem then you need to replace the senders.
If you have access to a Chevron station just use that gas, It has what you need in it, Plus it is good gas. Or use Shell.
I used shell exclusively (no chevron) for about a year and a half without problem until about the last few months then my gauge started acting up.
Since Ive moved and been using only chevron, no prolems.
Oh, btw Im not trying to pick a fight, I just want to mention my Xperience.
