Default Double Din Modders Please Step Inside.

I've been going back and forth with doing the double din mod to my radio surround bezel. If I can think of something good to put in place of the ashtray/cig lighter area I will probably pull the trigger. I'm not "Boosted" yet so gauges would be unecessary. I have an Ipod classic (a cool mount for that would be good) also thinking about an EQ. Anything other ideas out there in SuperModder land?

Im just gonna say go ahead and do the DD.
And if you dont have anything for that area just close it off for now, and later if you get some gauges or something you can add them in.

I closed mine off 'cause I dont have anything I want in there.......yet!

I was undecided as well and just put in a ID plate for looks till i decide what I want to do. I am thinking about maybe a remote Valentine one and mount it down there, along with a homelink.

On mine I put two switches for the heated seats. The switches look like they are factory there.

So there is your reason to do it!

I think the lower area that's left unused from the double din mod would make a great spot to drill some holes for an ECS Alky Control box and Line lock switch........ Not that I'm planning anything.

I still need to put the lighter back in mine. I will also be adding a switch for the cutouts.

would the homelink range be restricted since it would lose to clear path to whatever you are opening?

If you go with the Alpine PXA-H701 double din deck you can add the Alpine PXA-H701. The PXA-H701 is a built in processor that is better then the EQ. Allows you to control 32 settings per speaker and more from the deck. Since it's not mounted in the dash and controlled from the deck it will allow you more room in your dash.

I think I'll put heated seat switches in mine (when I do it), the cig lighter, and if there is room a 3-prong wall plug in spot so I can hook up a laptop or something.

I dont know, but some cars have them on the console like this as well as the roof center console. So i was going to try it. I thought about this as well

Brian (C5 kidd) molded the area so I could leave it blank. But he put a piece of solid ABS plastic behind it so if I wanted to mount auxillary controls for anything, I could. There's nothing wrong with leaving it open either. He contoured it pretty well, looks stock.

I preferred the clean look when it came to the IPOD mount (no wires), I ran the line into my center console and cut a slit for the adapter to fit through.
(sorry for the big/sun glare pics)

Thats a good idea, never thought of it. I have been trying to find a place for a remote display and hate Garage door openers.
