with the baby mod here, not much cash for other mods, so I decided to do one that only cost me my time.
broke out the bucket, sandpaper, water, and wool pad along with the dewalt rotary.
here you can see the orange peel that the vette paint has a little if you look close
here you see after a pass of 2500 meguires unigrit, then a pass with 3000 unigrit followed with a wool pad pass of menzerna powergloss, then a pass of a white foam polishing pad with some Adams Revive polish.
same as the side, you can see the ripples in the reflection from the overhead light. same method as the side.
now I have to do the entire car. I figure 2 or 3 hours a night and I can get it perfect in about 2 or 3 weeks. probably will take 40-50 hours give or take....but cost was very low from evils wallet.
I can accomplish quite a bit with my PC7424, but nothing can compare to a rotary in the hands of someone who knows what he is doing.
Great work. It will be time, and as you said, money well spent.
Very nice! That looks like a relaxing project. Just take your time and remove as little material as you need to.
yea, probably 15-18 strokes with each grit dipping in the water after every 2 passes. thought just the 3000 would be enough to get the results I wanted, but had to step up to 2500.
Wow, nice work Brian. Are you following a specific how-to, or are you trying this out as you go along? I might give this a try myself if I could find some truly idiot-proof* instructions.

*because I am, basically, an idiot.
I have done it before in smaller sections to correct acid rain etching or bird dropping marks, but never an entire car. just going slow and not going to rush it. goal is to be done by the sport chevy show on 20 april if not sooner.
When I did my old black car, I was afraid I would remove too much material...but it looks like you've got it nailed. Now all you need to do is paint it red and it'll look perfect
Glad I kept my old fender from the accident. Now I have a practice platform to use and compare with.
Is there a step by step guide on doing this process exclusively for the vette?
Looks great by the way.
Thanks
not really step by step because every finish is different. just start with the lowest abrasive you can and dont remove too much. also stay away from high spots and edges since the clear is thinner there.
the meguires guys have a nice video out on youtube on wetsanding. just search "wetsanding"
