[Windshield] Help?
So I got a huge crack in my windshield. Ok, go to get it replaced.
Nope, not that easy.
The auto glass place calls me and says "In order to do a Z06 windshield, we need to order some parts." What parts? Miscellaneous mouldings. Ok, fine. But these parts aren't available in the area, all on backorder.
2 weeks later, I have nothing. I can't get any information on what they need to replace to do my windshield. If I had part numbers, I'd just order them, but they can't give me part numbers. They refuse to replace my windshield without these Misc. Mouldings, but don't know what these mouldings are.
Can anyone help me out, what do I need to have to get my windshield replaced?
The guy at the shop pointed to the weatherstrip mouldings on the side windows. Are those them? Why do they need to replace those?
First thought is that it sounds fishy... just my .02 cents. why can't you get it back till they get the part(s) in. Or did they take it out already without having the replacement part(s) hmmm
Good Luck, sorry I can't help you with what you need.
I had mine replaced about 6 months ago, they just replaced it in my garage. He did put some new rubber strips on the top of the windshield, and used two tubes of black sealer, but other than that ... I don't know what they want to replace.
When replacint the w/s on your vettee it is definatley better to replace the weather stripping around the w/s. This can be saved only if your very careful. But would always replace this..I can get you this part if it help but they are very expensive. I carry precesion brand mouldings or you can get them at your local dealership. let me know if I can help in any way..

I've still got the car. I won't leave it with them, not my poor Z. But I keep getting a run around on these "misc mouldings" that no one knows what they are.
Make sure they put in the right windshield back in your car.....I just went through all this crap with windshield replacement, and it seems like alot of other people have had a nightmare with it as well.
The side mouldings may or may not have to come off I don't know but they can reuse them...........and I do know the drivers side is on national back order at this time, but no need for it just for a windshield R&R.
Also do me a favor and tell me what # is located on the glass on the passenger side lower corner when they replace it.....thanks
When mine was replaced they installed new glass, new R&L W/S, new R&L moldings and a new piece at the top all OEM. The only problem was the azzhats drove the front over a sidewalk and denied it.
i work at a body shop and have replaced quite a few windshields. dont think they are giving you the run around ive had several cars that it was much easier to get windshields for than window moldings... that weather strip is what hes talking about and it gets attached the the urathane that is used to hold the window in.. only way to get the window out is to cut the urathane and 99 times out of 100 they are gonna end up cutting up your window moldings... thats just how it is, i wouldnt question them about it too much.
Had mine replaced a while back and they did replace all moldings with OEM parts. took about 2 days if I remember. It may be that the parts are on back order so they are having a hard time ?
