[Z06] Rented a C6 Convertable....
The appearence of the car looked nice overall in the convertable model. The power top was awesome in comparison to my past 94 convertable which was a PIA to open & close.
Interior looks were cool with a red & black combo. I didnt like the stupid carbon fiber radio surround/bezel.....tacky
I also didnt like the silver accents used throughout the interior.....cheesy.As far as how the interior "felt"...it was ok.... but less than I expected. The seats were nice & fit my stature well. (I'm 5'9" @ 205lbs) I didnt like the dash too much. It was sort of flat.....not a surrounding feeling to it. HUD was cool....like the G meter!
Unfortunately, it was an A4.....no likey. I found the paddle shift feature interesting at best, but I really had a hard time getting used to it. I kept it in regular automatic mode for the most part. The shifting was late & sluggish most of the time. I noticed the engine would race when using the downshift selection on the paddle shift when moving slower than normal??? I dunno, maybe I cant get past my 6 speeds in the ZR1 & Z06.
The engine was strong & sounded decent at higher rpm. I really didnt like the fact that I really had to mash the pedal to get a "good" response out of it though. Then, when I'd rap it out a little, it sounded "chattery"....if that makes sense
sort of a "tinny" sound to it. Dont get me wrong, it would move, but compared to my C5 Z06.....it was no contender. Keep in mind, I live at 5300' above sea level....this C6 was in Florida as I said, and my Z06 still felt much stronger.I'm glad I had the chance to compare a C6 to my C5 Z. Now I REALLY dont want one. It was a nice cruiser with a few nice upgrades, but nowhere near the adrenalin pumper that the Z is. GM got it right with the Z06. Hell, I even like my ZR1 better than the C6. I didnt get that Corvette feeling that I do when I'm in either of my Z's.
If you're thinking about getting rid of your Z06 for a C6 coupe or vert....dont do it. You may be disappointed.
Jerryx......headers, X-pipe, hi-flo cats & a Halltech air intake. But remember, the altitude sickmess my Z suffers at 5300'. The C6 shouldve felt better since the Florida pavement is 2' above sea level
All I know is that I love my Z06!! I have been considering selling....but getting cold feet now.
Having owned nothing but standard transmission sports cars, I can understand why you were underwhelmed comparing your Z to the Auto 08. Auto tranny sports cars just don't have the same fun factor to me. Just my opinion.
