I read most of the post about the exhaust jingle and I want to make sure thats what I have and its not something else. It seems like everyone is talking about hearing the noise upon deacceleration but I hear it usually when im on the gas in the lower rpm range not when i lift off the pedal. My car has the stock intake so I know thats not the problem. I wish I could record the sound its to hard to describe. Its so annoying. If its cold out it seems likes its worse. Anyhow if it is the h pipe can I have a exhaust shop just cut larger holes on either side and weld a new pipe in between the two. Or has anyone had a x pipe made from an exhaust shop? I would rather not spend three hundred for an x pipe thats seems a little extreme.
From what I remember, it sounds almost like you're dragging a light chain....it stands out even more when driving next to a concrete wall or something.
You might as well get long tube headers which come with an xpipe...that way you get awesome sound plus a great pickup in horsepower :word:
"Sounds like your dragging a lite chain" thats it exactly. Was the jingle an option are was it standard? LOL. Any chance you can buy the headers for me pb24dagrk my birthdays coming up!!
My '02 does the same thing, I hear a jingle or rattle on decelleration. I can hear it when I gently rev the engine at a stop too. I think it's one of my cats, it seems to come from that area. I'm getting better at ignoring it, and I'm saving for headers...
It is a very common problem for the 02Z's. The jingle came from the stock H-pipe. I along with many others installed an aftermarket x-pipe and the problem went away.
I've sold my '04 Z and bought a '06 Z. I got the same jingle as in the '04. I took it to the dealer and they sprayed graphite in the hangers. No more noise as of now.
I got my 02 Z06 in this past fall - the car was completely stock. The exhaust sounded great- at WOT it was plain aggressive. However, I had the exhaust "jingle" - which I can best describe as loose change coming from the back of the car. I too thought it might be a cat going bad - it was the H-Pipe.
Had Corvettes of Houston install a Magnaflow X-Pipe- and voila no more jingles.
But I will tell you- I very much miss the popping on deceleration and the BARK of the exhaust at WOT. So much so- that in hindsight, I probably would have put up with the jingle sound.
Now I am contemplating installing a B&B catback ( Bullets or PRTs) or a GHL Magnum system - to liven up the exhaust note.
I suppose the X-Pipe smooth out the exhaust pulse and at least in thery should enhance the exhaust flow. I kept the old GM H-Pipe, yes the hole in the H section is pathetically small ( looks like it was punched out with an ice pick).
