Guys, I will be driving on a 3k+ mile road trip to FL and back starting tomorrow and was wondering is covering MOST of the frt bumper with low adhesive (blue) painters tape will have any affect on the paint when I go to remove it in 1.5 weeks. The car will be sitting in a driveway in florida so the sun will be on it most of the time. Thanks
I would think it would be the same as if you had a bra on it for that time. No paint fading if that is what you are worried about. The tape is good for bugs but rocks will still chip the paint thru the tape.

The main reason for the tape is to prevent scratches from the bra during driving and driving through rain (cause dirt will get between the bra and paint) I just dont want the tape to leave its adhesive behind when I go to pull it, any even done something like this?

I drove from Mississippi to Northern CA last Oct with front bra and mirror gloves and didn't see any noticeable difference in front paint. Are you taping the front end before you install the bra? When I got back to MS, I did a complete clean-up and polish of the car. Sitting in the sun for how long in FL?

Yes tape goes on before bra, it will be in florida for 10 days.
Ok Now I get what you mean. I have never heard of any tape hurting the finish of a car. I have not done it & I use a Colgan bra & mirror covers without any problems.

I'm Curious to know that answer also. My brother in CA has a C5 also and he made the same trip, (CA to MS) with his bra and mirror gloves but no tape and he didn't have any problems either. So hopefully someone will chime in who has better knowledge of this. Do you have mirror gloves also?

OK, that's a fine looking Vette you have and mirror gloves will help protect from bugs, since they seem to like our mirrors as much as our front ends and windshield. Good luck, and be safe.
If you wax/ polish the front before you leave you should be ok. I would not leave the bra on in a sandy area. Remove it once you get to your destination, clean the area under the bra use a detail spray , clean the back of the bra , store it in the back and before you leave clean the bra area and put the bra on for the trip home.

If you can't come up with mirror protection, you could just use some heavy saran wrap. Its not the most attractive solution, but will work for those long highway trips where not many people will get close enough for it to matter. I've used it for a nose bra in a pinch, like when i got into the lovebug swarms near the Delta states. The car looked blackened like i had just re-entered earth's atmosphere from space! they peeled right off with the saran wrap.

I am going to do this but add some painters tape to the corners and edges, when I get to FL I will take it off then reapply when I go to leave, thanks for all the help!!

The GM bra actually fits very well on the C5 - I've been running one on mine for seven years and have never seen any sign of paint buffeting. I don't see the need for any painter's tape, but if you feel you want it, it shouldn't hurt the finish.

Ihave used the painter's tape under some of the seams of the GM Bra just as extra insurance but only for a day or two at most. I have not seen either the tape or the bra cause any problem at all.
I just carry the painters tape with me. Got pretty good at putting it on the edges and a couple big seams. Would probably run without the bra if it's raining and not put it back on wet. Let it dry and vacume it good. I take it off after i get there, put some back on when going on the highway again for long trips.
Here's some pics before i got better at placing the tape.
Tape under red area for seams
Poor job here but got better at it.
^^ Looks like my car right now but I will take it off once I get to FL. I actually pulled the bra off a bit to get some of the tape to line up with the bra
Seems like a lot of work - I'm having the clear film installed in a few weeks. It is great. I've had it on my cars and trucks for over 17 years and it still works great- no chips/scratches/ etc. it is expensive to have it done right. $350 ish.
My installer did a new 2007 doing almost the complete car- close to a $1000.

I hear you, just the thought of lovebugs where I am, might bring them out. Here's a short spot for you.....Where I'm from there are so many lovebugs if you park your car in your driveway, lovebugs slam into it just like you were driving it.
Please don't mention them again......
