Been there the last 10 years. Not to get picky but the race in May is the Nevada Open Road Challange. The race in Sept is the Silver State Car Challange. Both do run the same course. I will be in the TT ZO6 (see below). If you are into this type of racing check out: www.openroadracing.com
MKM also races in Nevada in June and Aug. Both are 2 way (up and back) events. Actually the Pony Express (Aug) is 87 miles down and 47 miles back. The longest of all the races. I personally like the MKM races better then the SSCC races, better road for one reason, and a few more turns for another. Don't get me wrong both are big fun.

A friend of mine goes down with his black C5 and his buddy will be going as well in his silver procharged C5 I think he is gunna run the silver C5 in the unlimited class this year. We'll see thought. he still has to get a cage put in it.
Nassua,
Has your buddy run a 160/170 average yet? To run unlimited you have to have completed a run in the 160/170 class first. I hope he has we need a Vette to beat Richard in the Black Camero. He had a 198.5 mph average last Sept.I will be running in the 160 class, my car should tech to Unlimited but it is the 1st time out with red TT so want too see how it goes this time.

Sounds cool,,,something I'd like to add to my "too do list"!! Any idea what a stock FRC would "tech" to? It sounds like even stockers can run.Just curious how fast they would let you run in one.

Yea. He has raced his black C5 (has a trans am style spoiler. name is Ty Mason) in that class for the last 3 years i believe. Over the summer he built up a friends car to hopefully run in the unlimited class. 408CI procharged on 9PSI making 770 RWHP. the car doesn't have a cage yet and im not sure if it will for the spring race. we'll see. Since his friend has never raced out there he will be driving it. Im hoping he gets it done!

I have never gone out there but from what i understand from what my buddy tells me first timers are only allowed to do the 150 average class or something like that. Im sure jeffy can clear it up. A stock car wouldn't have a problem out there. Its not about speed its about timing.

Yes, I went to his link and looked at some of the rules, and it said that the tech inspectors assigned a speed class based on what they see safety equipment wise. They have random speed checks and if you are going too fast over your class speed you get the boot.Just wondering if someone had a ballpark guess on a stock FRC.Want to be able to "goose it a little bit".Sounds like fun to be able to open it up with out worrying about oncoming traffic and speeding tickets.
Itzza427,
My first race I ran in the 125 average/140 tech class. This is very easy to do in a Vette. The item that lets you make this class is a harness bar (other then helmet, fire extingusher, cotton clothing, leather shoes and gloves) with out the harness bar 110/124. is the max. The question most Vette owners want to know also is you are not REQUIRED to have a roll bar until the 160/180 class.
One thing alot of people forget is it is a whole weekend of fun not just the Sunday race.
Another thing to keep in mind your first race you are REQUIRED to qualify on the road course in Las Vegas on the Thursday of race week with SSCC. If you race with the other Nevada group, MKM www.openroadracing.com they qualify you on Friday on a 10-12 miles section of the actual race course. So no added side trip. Also the MKM race in August is 130 miles long (more bang for you buck and the most fun of all the races).

Thanks Jeffy,,I was looking at the MKM site, sounds really interesting .I'm going to schmooz the wife and kids for a lifetime membership for fathers day.Don't know when I'd actually be able to run but that way I'd be ready.I think something like this would be WAAAYYY more fun than something like the Petty experience.letting it rip for 80+ to 100+ mi vs a few laps on a track with a chaperon leading the way.Want to get out there soon, even if it's just to be a course monitor or something,Gotta at least see it soon.. Again thanks for the info,,Gene
Consider the Big Bend Open Road Race in Texas- see BBORR.com. Have friends from CA who come to the race every year - two brothers - one from San Diego in an '03 Z-06 and one from the Bay area in one of his Porche's. 118 mile round trip with the same number of curves/turns. Lots of fun.
I had planned on running this race this year. But then there was a bunch of political issues and it was off/on/off/on again. I had family coming to work course and had to make the choice of where to have the family go. So when it looked like it was cancelled for good we changed all our plans to go to the NORC. Maybe next year for Texas. It is not as fast but the curves are funn also.
