I'm pretty sure I've got the oil loss. No biggie at 1qt per 3000 miles, maybe I'll just add a catch can to keep oil out of my intake and just go with it.
I guess my real question is if the black smoke is a part of the oil buring problem, or something else..
In 01 the C5 had a problem with oil consumption due to the rings. This was corrected in late 01. There were recalls for the early year models. At this stage in the game it will be live with, repair, or sell. There are several treads concerning this if you do a search. I know because I did the search prior to buying my late model A4 01.
