For some time my shift **** has been loose in my MN6. I thought it was just loose and needed to be tightened. SO the other day while driving I turned it and turned it more. It never got tighter. So I turned it the other way and take it off. I kept turning it and thought it was loose enough to pull off the shaft.
Here is where it got funny. The **** shaft and boot came off the shift rod. There I was sitting at a light with the shifter in my hand.
Question. The **** is tight on the shift rod but the rod is what keeps turning. I can't see a set screw or anything that would keep this from turning. This can't be normal. Although kinda funny when you are at a light and you pull the shifter out and hand it to your buddy sitting at a light, this can't be right.
Is this where the two pieces are separating? It is assembled with an epoxy from the factory and there is no way to tighten it. You should just post in the For Sale/ Wanted section for a shifter. Someone will probably give you one for shipping cost.

there is a stock shifter in the pay it forward thread.

Yeah. That is exactly where it is coming apart. I wonder if anyone has ever epoxied it back together. Will look around for one. Thanks.
I have an oem C5/Z06 shifter that came out of my '04 Z16 at approx. 4,000 miles. It's been shortened at the top portion of the threads by exactly 3/4". It still has the neutral alignment pin and the four 1/4-20 mounting bolts.
Another young member is considering buying it right now, but if he elects to shorten his own shifter, then mine is available. If you're interested you can PM me and I'll send you images and asking price. The **** will sit lower on the shifter by 3/4".
Or, you could take this as karma and buy yourself an aftermarket shifter or the ever popular C6/Z06 shifter assembly from Gene at GMPARTSHOUSE. He's a site supporting vendor.
I believe the price of a brand new C6/Z06 shifter assembly is still about $200 +/-. There are some good prices on used aftermarket shifters in the CF classifieds as well.
