Default Replacing Car Key?

I lost the only key to my vette. Anyone know how much it costs to replace with the keyless entry unit? How long does this take to process.

Go to www.gmpartshouse.com and look under the Corvette Parts listing. It should tell you how much the key fob is. As for the key itself, you can get it at a dealer or perhaps a local key shop.

take proof of ownership, either title, registration, or insurance card plus your driver's license to a Chevy dealer and they can cut you one in a matter of minutes by using the vin number. the paper work must have your name on it and you have to prove how you are. a key shop has to have your key code and vats code to do a key.

once you prove you do indeed you own the car, the dealer contacts gm with the vin number then will receive back from gm the key code and vats code. the parts guy then enters that info into his key machine and it spits out a key....... like magic.

Got mine off the bay. Got 2 keys and a fob for less than $30.

Default Programing the new key

Does anyone know the procedure for programing the new key to your car? I have a new key for my '01 but it hasn't been programmed, I was not able to find the procedure in the owner's manual.

The keys don't get programmed, they are matched by the chip in the key and the cut of the key. If you have the correct key, and the locksmith cut it correctly, it should just work. If it doesn't, you probably bought the wrong key. Did you test the resistance value of your working key and match that with the key you bought? Where did you get the new key?

Default Sorry

Sorry Gents, I have this key confused with the one in my Impala, they do have to be programed and I am not familiar with the procedure, they don't have a chip in the key.

This is what happens when you have too many GM cars in your stable.
