Default The right C5 for me... Please help

Hello guys id like some help in finding the right vette for me. Ive owned a couple high hp supras and currently have a stock TT 6 speed i drive on the weekends and have a daily driver i use for work. Im looking to have a 10 second vette, that looks good and maintains some reliability. Ill probably only take it to the track a couple different times, id say the cars more for weekend driving than racing.

Id like to start with the facts I know and have found out from research so correct me if im wrong.

-Id like to get a C5 cause i want to have the removeable top so not looking at performance if i put the brake ducts on my c5 looks wise its the same thing?
-Id prefer a 6 speed but if the tranny will grenade if i put 7xx rwhp down I guess I will have to get an auto?
-Ive seen some nice 97+ vettes go through here for around 15k, this would be ideal as i have about 20k saved up so that would leave me some cash to slowly mod the car.
-What do i need to run 10s here at 5700 feet?

I guess im trying to see how i could justify paying low 20s for a z06 when i can get a 98 c5 for 5k less and put the brake ducts on and have the same thing minus the performance but Im not worried about that cause the car will not stay stock.

thanks for any help you guys can give.

not mine but this might help you out.
You might have to get your own brake ducts

Default Confused!

Sorry but I'm a bit confused. first you say you're looking for a 10 sec Vette and then you say you want a removable top so not looking for performance. What ARE you looking for????

I think you're a bit confused. Normally, its automatic trans that can't hold as much power as a manual. Therefor, (not speaking from experience, as I have a 6 speed) I believe you'll want a built automatic for 7xx+ hp and drag racing.

The rest of your bullet points aren't really questions, as much as statements. Perhaps if you could rephrase, you'd get more help.

You can find 97s for mid teens, but if I were you, I'd buy the newest one you could afford, reasons include more powerful engines and active handling among others. Someone else can expand upon the differences.

Again, guessing here. But for 10s you'd probably want some sort of forced induction, either SC or Turbo.

thanks guys sorry it was confusing, i guess what im trying to say is.
-why get a newer z06 if im going to modify it anyways since the bodystyle is the same Is there anything else that is better with a new vette vs me getting say a 97.

For instance instead of spending 22k on a 02 z06 i could find a 97 for around 14k, now the reason im doing this comparison is the engine does not really matter cause i plan on doing alot of upgrades to it so the fact that its newer and has more power does not matter to me is there any other reason to spend the extra and get a newer one?
