I bought my '02 vert in September 2006. The dealer was asking $36.5 I got it for $33. It had 30k miles on it. I think the asking price in your case is too high.
The Kelley Blue Book retail value is $37,115. The Private Party value is $33,580 for Excellent condition or $31,835 for Good condition. Trade In value is $30,150 for Excellent and $28,610 for Good.
Their price sounds a bit high but not by much.

Funny, however you got taken by the dealer at the price you paid.
Our '04 CE - bought in Feb 04, was $38.5K (every option offered).
