I bought a 2001 C5 last year and the car came originally with a cassette player. The previous owner had bought a new 12 disc changer and wire harness kit but had never installed them. I got these with the car and now I'm ready to put them in. I remember him telling me that the passenger seat would have to be removed to route the wire harness correctly. Has anyone done this installation and is it true that the seat must be removed to get the wire harness in the correct location? Also, anyone who has done this installation and has any helpful suggestions I would appreciate them.
Thanks
Here are a few photos of my install. I did not remove my seat. I did remove the trim pannels and the move the carpet in the rear. It is a fairly straight forward procedure. You have to move the wires around a bit under the passenger footwell in order to find the plug. Mine was taped on the back side of the wire harness.
...and the only trim you really need to remove is the door sill as shown in the image above. The harness can be easily pushed under the rest of the trim as it snakes to the trunk. I used two plastic zip ties next to the passenger seat just to keep it neat there. If I ever decide to sell my changer setup, I can include the harness.
I mounted the brackets to the trunk cubby hole with the supplied four 1/8" pop rivets and heavy duty VELCRO rather than the epoxy, for the same reason.
My 02 also came with a cassette and the factory changer in the trunk. This set-up is such old technology that it won't play home made cds which really sucks.
So, I am trying to decide whether or not to replace the deck or live with it.

My 02 will play homemade CDs (CDRs,) both in the changer and the in-dash CD player. It won't play MP3s off CDs, but then most audio equipment from 2002 won't
