Hi, I;m new to this site here..currently looking to buy a vette between 2000 or 2001. For the past 15 yrs, I've been driving nothing but ford (mustang)..I need some help from expert here what to look for in a vette. I mean, when it comes down on the vette, I have no clue whatsoever. How many type of suspension do they have for those years? What is FRC? how many type of roof do they come? what kind of engines available, what is the different between them? How do I know Z06 clone from a genuine one? and what are the most common problems for the vette in those years, you know..all those stuff.

My suggestion would be to use the search feature on the forum, there are MANY threads regarding your questions. Once you've put in the effort to learn about the cars you'll be very comfortable in your purchase.

There is literally a ton of information on C5's available on the internet as well as on this site - if you try a search. This has been discussed so many times that it makes baby Jesus cry.
One tip I will share with you - at least put in your city and state in your profile. It makes it easier to recommend places for you to obtain help if we can determine what part of the country that you live in.
Do a little research. It's actually fun to uncover answers on your own. After five years of membership and ownership - I still learn something new every day. Read all you can - both in print and on the 'net. The more you learn, you'll refine your list and narrow down your choices. When you have it down to a specific car and color - half the fun is the search.

I ask because everyone else I know who wants to, or has bought a Vette knows something about the cars <like what "roof" options are available, what engines>, especially if they are being so specific about wanting a certain year range.
Here are some good steps in choosing what Vette you want...
-Do you want and Manual or Automatic?
-If you want a Manual, you can choose from all 4 Models...Coupe, Vert, FRC, or Z06 <there is a difference between the FRC & Z06>
-If you want an Automatic, you only have the Coupe & Vert to choose from.
-What Engine do you want? 1st Gen LS1, 2nd Gen LS1, or LS6
-1st Gen LS1 = 2000 - Coupe, FRC, Vert
-2nd Gen LS1 = 2001 - Coupe, Vert
-LS6 = Z06
That should help get you on the right track as the what model Vette you want. From there I would suggest searching the forum and other websites and do some reading up on other options like suspention, colors, option packages.
Lots of good deals out there on both years you just have to decide what model you want and then go for that one in your price range and there are lots of cream puff C5s out there to be had
