Ok, I can't be the only one. This is what I'm talking about. I can imagine that maybe there is a cover or something that would go over this. I don't know, but here is the pic:
I have the same problem. I read a post a while back where someone cut a slit on the armrest, then used that to smooth out the door skin. After that they covered it with the armrest so you wouldn't see the slit. I'm sure if you serch for it you'll find the one I mean. I am planning on doing this myself as soon as it warms up a little. Good luck with this one.
I see. I think I will get some of those armrests. That wrinkling really bothers me for some reason. Thanks for the direction. I had never seen those before.

Mine wasn't coming apart, but I installed the VE armrest anyway. Sure made it comfortable for my arm and I'd bet it will cover the area you are talking about.
Cost? couple bucks for a flavor injector, couple bucks for contact cement.
if you pull the foam out of the back of the door, youll find theres already holes. inject contact cement into holes, wait for it to tack, press it down. Friggin easy.
to inject it, cut the tip off the flavor injector (so its not sharp) and use it for glue.
take your time though, do an inch at a time. if you get overzealous with the glue or do too much at once, it comes back up.

Hey Kale, how about some names of the stuff you used and where you got it.
Although it's blurry, that pic seems to indicate a car with a rough life. Am I wrong? The door sill looks like the car is used primarily for off road. I hardly lean on that armrest at all and hopefully it will never wrinkle.
I'm sorry, it just looks like the door panel has had a rough life so far.

Please correct me with some clearer pics.....
Mine gets the pampered treatment, garaged and hardly driven in the rain, but driven a lot when the weather is good. I believe the problem occurs because of oils in your skin that soak in during the summer months. These oils break down the compound that is used to glue the door skins on and cause the delamination.

I can see why one might think the car is rough by the pictures, but no, it's like new everywhere but the armrests, just dirty. It's a '97, but only has 18K miles on it. The original tires are on the car and they are in great shape. It has always been garaged, except for the week it spent in Florida with my wife and I, and then it was in a car port under the house. I'm the second owner, and bought it last year. the original owner was in his 60s and put only 9K mile on it in 10 years. Now it's my DD for the most part.
My feeling is that the armrest material deformation is due more to age than wear in this case, because my passenger side is in about the same shape. I will take more pics today after work, but beware, I think the door sills might be dirty again, and the flash makes it really stand out.
Crap! I forgot to take new pics, but I was thinking about the door wrinkles more. Perhaps it's humidity of the garage it's been stored in? I don't know, but just for shiites and giggles, here are some redemption pics of the car.
