Ok, just finished stereo install, CD player, kicker 10" sub, mid and highs component set w crossovers....the whole nine in kicker. I connect my battery and everything is good. Turn on my parking lights and both light panels pop up@#%$ turn on the headlights, and they work..ok--turn off the headlights and a loud noise as if the headlight motor is working overtime, but the headlights go down. The noise last for about 15 secs. Also I noticed that when I go to start, press the clutch in and it suppose to fire right up, but now it takes 3-5 secs to fire up. I need some help if anyone has experienced this. I appreciate ya
Hi there,
If you didn't have these two problems before the stereo install I would recheck my wiring installation & the grounds. The noise you hear is the head lamp motor running until it hits the down limit switch, once opened it shuts off the motor.Sounds like your head lamp switch is bad as the head lamps should not be moving at all when selecting the parking light position.Next check for a loose connection or change the clutch neutral safety switch.

Reason: additional info.
Thank chevy for the cheap nylon gears. I got my repair kit from Rodney Dickman http://www.rodneydickman.com/. Good company, good product, and easy to deal with.
My DIY sticky in C5 Tech has write ups and pics of all you need to know about fixing it. And yeah if it ain't put back together right you will have issues ......don't ask how I know...... although my issues didn't start until a bit after reassembly
Put in the Franken gear last night to cure my noise, now that headlight goes up and down 5 times (!) when turned on or off.
I guess I should be happy my car can wink at the ladies; but it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?
Thank you.
My guess is you don't have the arm in the slot and it is just spinning up and down, until the relay times out. Check that you have the headlight arm properly connected to the motor shaft.
That's what I'm thinking. The driver's side was the easiest. Less stuff to put back together wrong.
