First let me say that I come to this board quite often and found it to be first rate I have an 01 which I picked up about 8 months ago and totally love!
Well on the way to work yesterday I noticed that all the dash lights were out( hud working) and also found that my tail lights were also out. Half way to work they all came on again. After work once again they all were out and don't seem to want to come back on. When I turn off the car and open the door all the dash lights appear along with tail lights. Any ideas?
A little background.About 2 months ago I did get a new battery .You see that though my car has 54k on it I treat it like a garage queen . Have only put on about 1400 miles on it since I've owned it. I drive the car once about every 10 days to work.(15 miles round trip) Could this problem be related to the new battery giving out on me ?
I've never had that problem so im not sure.. I have had my blinker lights stop working on my insturment cluster and they weren't working outside either... It would do it once or twice then work fine I took it back to the dealership for warranty work and they fixed it... I just recently had electrical issues again were I would fill my car all they way up drive 20 miles and it would read empty on my guage... This was more of a problem they replaced the fuel tank, sending unit and my PCM its fixed for now but well see... good luck to you take the car either back were you bought it from or someone that knows corvette because working on them can get expensive... I have a 2001 coupe A4 with 75k on it
Go to the tech section and read the post by BILL CURLEY on electrical issues. He is the man when it comes to these cars electrics.
In the meantime, check the accordian wire protectors running into the doors. Pull them back and make sure there isn't one of the wires that is bare and grounding out. It is a common issue with the C5, and an easy fix when you find it.
Good luck and let us know what the problem was and the fix.
It sounds like there's a short in the wire that turns on the parking lights. (which also activate your gauge illumination) Check the fuse for the interior illumination. (I believe its in the passenger footwell fusebox) In some cases, the fuse can partially fail or just become weak.
PM Bill and search/read his posts, your solution lies buried in one of his posts. It seems your problem is something that you can fix on your own, once you know where to look,
