I need help with my transmission it use to pop out of reverse and i could get around it by just keeping my hand on the shifter. However it has been getting worse and worse and now it is hard to put it into reverse the gears just grind and sometimes it goes in and sometimes takes five to ten tries to get it in. If someone can give me a detailed explanation of what is wrong because all the other gears work fine i would appreciate it. If anyone can give me a reliable shop in the fresno ca area i would appreciate any advice.
I don't know a reliable shop out there but it sounds like your blocker ring is worn out. It could also be the shift pads that originally caused it. Mine did it every now and then. I pulled the tranny and reverse is the closest gear once the tail shaft is removed. You don't need a bearing puller to pull it but you do need some snap ring pliers and lock ring pliers to get at them. The reverse blocker ring is about $10 the plastic pads I'm not sure but should only be a couple of dollars. If you messed up the slider/synchro you can deburr it and flip the slider over and use the other side (free or $100 new) and if you damaged the teeth that mesh with the blocker ring like I did a new reverse gear is around $100. Worse case senario fixing it yourself about $200. The blocker ring is for reverse is goldish in color.
I can send you the manual and you can see where it is. It is easy to get at once the transmission is out.
You can get the parts from RPM Transmissions a forum sponsor. You would need to call them for prices.
