Default What Corvette Generation was most produced?

What Corvette generation was most produced, numbers-wise? I'm guessing the C3 or C4, right? Anyone know? I'm guessing there were about 50% more C4s built than C5s?

Here's what I came up with...

C1: 69,015 (10 model years)
C2: 117,966 (5 model years)
C3: 542,966 (15 model years)
C4: 337,701 (13 model years)
C5: 248,715 (8 model years)

Cool... thanks to the both of you for those numbers. I really thought the C3 and C4 would have been a little closer.

This is just a rough guide but GM seems to be producing ABOUT 35 - 36,000 Vets a year since 1998.
You can get very close with that average.

Hmmm... futher clarification concerning the term Stingray......

1968...FIRST year chrome bumper "C3"...Don't recall ANY of them being labeled as Stingray. Chevy didn't do it.
'69-'76, and EARLY '77 were ALL labeled "Stingray".

So, technically, all '69-early '77 cars were officially "Stingrays". Before that, in '68, and after that, they were simply called "Corvette".

"Shark" is the term used for the C3 body style, regardless of year, or fender badges. I prefer the term Shark, myself which were the most produced Corvette body style to date from 1968 -1982 ...

Wasn't Sting Ray (2 words) also used on some C2s?

Yes, the term Sting Ray last appeared on the 1967 C2 body style. It was changed to 1 word when it reappeared on the C3.

Great data. I'm guessing the C5/C6 era will run from 1997 to 2011 with 15 model years and about 510k to 520k cars. I'd like to see a more original body style for the C7, not just a tweak like the C5 to C6.

Interesting data, the C3 obviously was the most produced due to years in production.

At first glance...but the mid/late 70s saw a LOT of Corvettes sold each year.
If the C4 would have been made for 2 more years, they still wouldn't come close to C3 production numbers.

1979 holds the title for most cars built in one year. 53,807 rolled off the line.

Interesting numbers - makes sense that the C3 would have the highest number since it was the generation produced the longest.

Not only that but ALL C2's (also called midyears) were STING RAY's written as 2 words in square block letters while the '69 thru '76 sharks were written as one word with a capital S and small letters after that and in script/cursive style.
