Never had this problem and am scared to death I am going to break something.
Wheels have never been off the car (2002) except for inspections - went to take them off the clean and I can't break the lug nuts free. I tried using a breaker bar for leverage, and even tried hitting the socket wrench with a mallet - No luck
Anyone have any ideas on how I can break these free?
If they've never been off, there may be some rust involved. You might try an impact wrench. If you find rust on the lug nuts, there's probably evidence of rust on the rotor to hub as well.
Replace the lug nuts with better quality show chrome or black GORILLA lug nuts/locking lugs. They're available from site supporting vendor HOUSE OF WHEELS or your local DISCOUNT TIRE (@ 100# torque).
sounds like someone got over zealous tightening them. 100 ft lbs should be no problem for a 16" 1/2" drive bar. find a piece of pipe to slip over the bar to use as a cheater. there's alway an impact but they are hell on chrome nuts.
I had the same problem last Fall when i pulled the wheels off my just bought 99 FRC. I had to slip the pipe handle from my floor jack over my 1/2 inch breaker bar to break them loose. now they are torqued to 100 ft. pds. courtesy of my new sears torque wrench.
