Okay, for my 2001 Coupe, this is what the fasteners look like. These are more like the norm as compared to 10U99's. His a unique to anything I've ever seen to secure door panels.
I think you can find something that would replace these, if not these at your local auto store. You may want to check a upholstery shop also. I definitely know you can get the door tool at you local auto store. That's where I got mine.

there's a 50 - 50 chance the female part will pull out of the door.
my door panel was squeeking when I put my elbow on the arm rest. there's a piece of styrofoam glued/screwed to the back side of the panel. I sprinkled baby powder in all crevices and cured that. there is a white powdery residue at times on the door sill that might be hard to explain but it does smell good.

I've had my door panels off... I want to say 20-30 times. I do a lot of changes with my stereo install.
I use butyl on the pins, which makes them stick when in, but release easily if you break the initial seal. Haven't broken one since. Never broken one of the clips in the door itself either.
gmpartshouse has the clips. So does your local dealer, they are not expensive.
