What is the box responsible for that the shifter installs to with 4 bolts?
I have one from a zo6 and was wondering if it would matter if I installed it in my coupes transmission as it has real low miles. Has zo6 stamped on it.
I've also had a problem shifting into 1st & 2nd and 4th will grind if I go too fast at high rpms. Probably a trans problem but wondering any way.
IDM; there is a difference in the C6 Z06 shift box ( this is the box that mounts w/ three torx bolts to the tunnel. The shifter arm assy bolts to the box with the 4 bolts) from the other models. That is the two (2) top slotted mounting holes have hard plastic bushings. This has two effects . A firmer mount ( no box movement, solid shifter feel) and more vibration transfer. Comparatively, the other models have rubber bushings that do allow the box to move to a point ( shifter feels less firm ) but less vibration travel thru shifter. These are slight at best but some have commented on the difference , and I perfer the Z06 box.
Look close at the two top shiny mounting elongated positions on the LEFT ( the C6 Z06 shift box). See how much shorter or closer they are to the box's cast surface than the C5's two mountings(just barely see the one on the outside right). The C5's tunnel mounts are rubber ( the SHIFTER ARM ASSY IN THE PICTURE ARE NOT RELEVENT TO THE SHIFT BOXES THEY ARE MOUNTED ON) [IMG][/IMG]

No difference in the boxes, both are the same mechanism. Both have rubber bushings at the two slotted mounting points.
I do not know if you can replace worn bushings or where you could find them if you could . Unless GM has them in a kit.
Are you asking . what does the shift box do? It transferes your actions at the shifter arm to the tranny.
