The combination of a new long travel time to the office, over poor congested roads. Lack of garage with the corvette savaged by the sand every night. Six black points and a bum hole puckering insurance premium. Horrible interior and negligent stealer ship. Has sealed the fate on my corvette.
Truth be told, the wife wants it gone so alas it has fought its final fight.
This leaves me in a difficult position as to what to replace it with, the main factor is my inability to get insured for anything silly. I had my eye on an Audi Rs4, Jaguar XK or an Aston Martin V8, but again it is just not possible for the next year.
So my intention is to go cheap, comfortable with good free servicing and with the spare dosh invest into drag racing or restore a classic 1969 vette.
I have looked in every car show room, I often have to stop myself because as I look at fast cars I think.. my corvette was faster... when I look at storage I think ... my corvette had more... when I look at the car I think ... my car looked better... then I look at price and think... Christ my corvette was cheaper. So with this in mind and knowing that I will not be happy with any car I have narrowed down to the following two options:
Ford Mondeo 2008 - 2.5T all the toys and more + best servicing in town
FJ Cruiser - because I like to think I might go near a sand dune outside my house one day.
This is only a car to get too and from work, nothing special and just needs to be comfortable for the 55DC summer coming round the corner.
Sorry man, but it seems you were faced with a damn near impossible situation. Look to the future, there will be another vette in it for you when circumstances are better.

It sounds like whatever you wind up with had better be able to withstand a daily sand blasting. I'd go cheap until the atmospheric conditions (read move) are better. BTW, will you be attending the F1 race?
Yea I told my wife after years of owning Corvettes that "I've sold my last one, I'm into something else" She said "you'll get another-just watch" Well she was right. Once you own a Vette-it's like a Harley-it's in you blood.
I too will miss your posts from Dubai. Its always interesting to hear from folks that own Vettes in other parts of the world. I enjoyed the post you did recently on the drag racing. I always think of drag racing as a North American thing.
Best of luck to you and I hope to see you back here soon.
Best of luck, sounds as if your decsion is not easy, considering the conditions that you are faced with I would drive a cheap car. Why purchase something new to have it subjected to what the Vette was?
