It is not a easy job. It is on the drivers frame rail on the inside. I did mine while i was doing my catback so it was easier. I am not sure if it can be done with the exhaust pipe in it is very tight. It took me about 20 mins with the exhaust out.
It was easy to replace the fuel filter on my '99 FRC, which has a manual gearbox. However, I've heard that automatic transmission equiped C5s are more difficult due to the exhaust routing.
I changed mine on my 97 and it was very easy. The hardest part is finding it. Make sure and bleed the valve on the fuel rail so you don't have fuel spray you in the face. I know C5s came with a couple of different setups so yours might not be like mine but try it. You never know until you try.
