Direct plug HID light problem
After i pluged in the HIDs the head lights will not go up or down. When i got the 03 Z06 if you put on the running lights the head lights would go up and on my friends 02 Z06 they would not. I put the factory 9006s back in and they work like they did before i started on the install. I hooked my test light to ground and tested fuses #8 and #10 under the hood and the lights go down. If i put the test light to 12v and test the same to fuses the lights go up. Does anyone think that the head lights going up with the parking lights has anything to do with the problem im having with the HID install. I have put the same HIDs in a cuple of trucks and they work good. This is the first vette i have put them in. THANKS
I don't know the solution, but I had (still have) the same issue when I put HIDs in my C5.
From what I've read, it's VERY common when replacing the stock bulbs with an HID setup. The easy solution to get your lights to go up or down when they are stubborn, is to flick on the brights, then turn the lights on/off for the desired up/down action. Once the lights are in the desired position, then flick back to low beams. It's so easy to just flick the hi-beams and do this, I have never bothered with a proper solution.
Anybody know a wiring trick to get this to work the RIGHT way?
Also, I see you mentioned you are having problems with getting the HIDs to even work right in the C5. You did not specify your exact problem, but I want to mention that you NEED to run your own wiring harness for the ballasts. Dedicated positive wire to battery terminal, and dedicated ground out somewhere. Trigger the lights with a relay going to the positive lead of the factory headlight connector. You can NOT just wire the ballast pos/neg wires to the factory plug.
from what I've seen I think you need to switch up the wiring at the ballasts. Plug everything in opposite. Search for forum member Milan as he just had and solved this issue and I think that's what he did.
Some people can get it to work with swtiching the headlight switch. I didn't want to wear it out so I added the harness. Here is a write-up I did on the relay harness and why it might be needed.
