DEPO C5R fixed headlight conversion questions.
What was the name of the adhesive remover you used to clean up the base and clear cover? Where did you get it from? What did you use to seal the units, when you reassembled them after you painted the chrome, and or clear cover?
Thanks in advance
To answer the original question, I ordered the adhesive remover from the following vendor:
Adhesive Remover:

Paint:

Clear Coat:

This adhesive remover is works and is very nasty. I used Q-tips to apply it. Use it in a well ventilated area and try not to get in on your skin. I was able to remove all the adhesive from the lens, even in the tight corners.
As for the paint, just provide them with your particular paint code and they will mix a can for you. It was a really good color match. You just need one can.
Finally, the clear coat works really well, It needs to be sprayed on heavily, otherwise it will leave a rough finish. Appplied heavily, it leaves a nice gloss.
Overall, this project was a lot of work, but the finished product was very nice.
One tip I can pass along is before I reassembled the lens to the housing, I draped some plastic wrap over the channel in the housing where the sealant is applied. I removed only the adhesive on the lens and not the housing. This was because I painted the housing along the edge and since its silver underneathe, you would see the black adhesive on the lens. Getting back to the plastic wrap, by draping the plastic wrap over the housing, with some slack, then place the plastic insert and lens back onto the housing. Then place the whole unit in the oven and reheat again. Remove from the oven and allow it to thoroughly cool. The remaining adhesive is now formed to the shape of the lens in the channel, without sticking to it, but filling up the space to help keep water and debris out. You can then remove the lens and remove the plastic wrap. This worked out great because I needed to open the housing again because the little metal piece below and in front of one of the lights fell off. I only needed to lightly reheat to remove the lens, and very little adhesive was stuck to the lens.
Anyways, good luck if you attempt this.

Whatever you use, i would tape off the inside of the lens as much as you can.
How hard were they to get apart?
